Genetic factors are considered to be the only cause of autism so that sufferers can not be cured but the evidence now emerging show that there are opportunities for healing because of the disorder is not only influenced by genetic factors but also influenced by environmental factors.

In commemoration of World Autism Care in Jakarta, Wednesday (2 / 4), dr. Melly Budiman SpKJ of autism Indonesia Foundation said it also showed a chance of healing and improvement of conditions for persons with autism.

"Autism affects the brain and body. If the disturbances in the body can be cured then it will help improve the brain as well," he said, adding that it was supported also by the facts about the number of autistic children who "cure".

Furthermore, he explains, children with autistic spectrum disorders  usually experience a disruption in the digestive tract, the immune system, central nervous system and the detoxification process.

They were, he continued, also allergic to many foods, heavy metal toxicity (Hg, Pb, As, Cd) and biochemical condition of the body affected. "When all the distractions in the body can be cured, then the brain will be more to function properly," he said. He further explained that the most important in this case is to detect and diagnose the disorder gets early as possible.

The earlier a child is diagnosed and receive appropriate therapy, according to him, the greater her chance to return to the path of normal development. Comprehensive Treatment for persons with autism, she said, include the repair of the body from the inside (the management of biomedical), medical (drug) when needed and the treatment of non-medical such as behavioral therapy, speech, occupational, sensory integration and others.

"There is no one type that can cure autism drug's," he added. He explained also that the success of healing or improvement of autism disorders depends on many factors such as heavy or light on brain disorders, heavy or light interference with the body, speed and handling of children diagnosed early, appropriate, integrated and intensive.

"Many children experience exceptional growth, but many were not well developed," he said. He explained also that in this case the autistic parents need support from physicians, therapists, and especially the community so that their children can brave face and not despair.

"We therefore urge the public to better understand what autism is, and not mock or harass individuals with autism, but rather to be tolerant and helpful, to be empathetic to parents and autistic children understand the difficulties they face," he said.

School administrators, he said, should also provide educational opportunities to children with autism who are worthy and capable. "And of course the government should provide guarantees in the areas of health, education and treatment affordable by all segments of society," said dr. Melly.
